How much is HP Printer Ink?
Printer ink is one of the most expensive substances, priced per gram, on the planet. If you think a gallon of petrol is expensive, be glad you don’t fill the tank with ink. It works out about €10,000 per gallon.
Luckily not much ink is needed in a cartridge, so you won’t need to take out a second mortgage. HP ink is marginally dearer than some of its rivals, but the story is more complicated than that. Using a better ink can result in less being needed, and each page printing cheaper. You’ve always got to look at the bigger picture.
As ink is so expensive it is important to use the printer correctly to get the most out of it. We all know you can drive a car in the wrong gear, with the air conditioning on, and run through a tank quickly, or you can drive carefully and get twice as far. It is the same with printer ink. At inkshop.ie we try to help our customers pick the right ink and get the most out of their printer.
But no matter how good you get at finessing the hardware, eventually the cartridge will run out and you will need a new one.

How many prints per HP ink cartridge?
This is a loaded question, and everyone wants the answer. There is an average. According to PCMag a standard ink cartridge will print an average of 220 pages (using 11ml of ink). But a high capacity cartridge, which holds 16ml of ink, will print 350 pages.
Let’s break that down. A standard cartridge gets 20 pages per gram, while a high capacity cartridge will print 22 pages a gram. Not a huge difference, but if you are printing in large volume the cents add up.
Sometimes the more expensive cartridge can actually be the cheaper!
That’s the per page cost, but what most people want to know is how many pages they can print before their cartridge runs dry. The answer to this is simpler - it depends on how much ink your cartridge can hold. The high capacity cartridges will always print far more pages than the standard cartridges.
Are all HP ink cartridges the same?
Are all bicycles the same? No. There are huge differences between the different cartridges, just as there are huge differences between the printers. You pick the printer that suits your needs. If you do a lot of colour printing, you choose a different printer than someone who just prints black text. If you need really sharp images a basic printer might not suit you. At inkshop.ie we can offer advice on which printer will suit your needs.
Once you have the best printer for your needs, you will need to get the right cartridge.
Every printer has one cartridge that will fit and is designed for it. Now your only choice is whether you want to go standard or high capacity. High capacity will cost more, but if you are printing in high volumes, the cost per page will be slightly lower.
The best advice is to use standard if you only print occasionally, but buy high capacity if the printer is busy.
